Abstract
In this paper a monolithic radar absorbing composite based on the fabric based multilayer laminates have been designed and fabricated. The multilayer laminate consists of the glass and carbon based fabrics along with lossy dielectric fillers in the epoxy medium. The individual laminates have been fabricated using vaccum bagging technology and their constitutive electromagnetic properties e.g. dielectric constant and loss tangent have been evaluated using the quasi optical free space measurement system (QOFMS) in the W band (75–110 GHz) frequency region. Based on the simulated results, optimized monolithic configuration of individual laminates have been fabricated and tested for the electromagnetic absorption using QOFMS. The experimental result shows minimum 10 dB reflection loss (90% electromagnetic absorption) across the entire frequency region. The fabricated structure shows potential applications for the radar cross section reduction for the stealth applications.
