Understanding how to use problem-based learning effectively in remote and virtual labs

Abstract

While considerable work has been undertaken in the area of remote and virtual labs, some using inquiry-based learning, to date very few have explored in-depth how to use diverse and innovative types of inquiry-based learning to enhance student engagement. This paper outlines the complex models of problem-based learning available and links to recent research on student engagement in the hope that this can be applied in the future to learning in remote and virtual labs.
