Marked synergism was detected in multidrug resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates when the ethanolamine antihistaminic, diphenhydramine, was used in combination with a variety of antibiotics such as azithromycin, erythromycin, amikacin, gentamicin or ciprofloxacin. Abstract
Research by El-Banna et al. studied the effects of antihistamine drugs on adaptations of Gram-negative bacteria to resist antimicrobial agents were investigated.
