The author notes the relevance of obtaining objective information about the state of the quality of the educational process and the search for means to ensure effective management of its quality. Attention is drawn to the fact that monitoring can become such a means, since it provides ample opportunities for managing the quality of education, and it is pedagogical monitoring, which includes didactic and educational elements. The article presents various interpretations of the concept of «educational monitoring». The main methods of pedagogical monitoring are highlighted, the advantages and disadvantages of testing, portfolio and rating system of accounting for educational achievements of students as methods of pedagogical monitoring are revealed.
