An empirical study on ease of doing business with specific reference to brics nations

Abstract

The present paper analyses the impact of Culture on Ease of Doing Business in BRICS Nations. The study was conducted for the period 2015–2016. In order to analyse the impact of culture, the score of each of the cultural dimensions was computed using culture compass. Further, the data on ranks of ‘ Ease of Doing Business’ is obtained from world bank's ease of doing business report. Each of the countries is then ranked on the basis of their cultural dimension score. Since data uses ranks i.e. ordinal in nature so Spearmen's Correlation Coefficient was used to test the hypothesis in order to analyse the impact of Culture on Ease of Doing Business. The paper concluded that Uncertainty Avoidance dimension of culture is found to be negatively correlated with Trading across Border.
