Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of directive illocutionary speech acts in the Japanese movie entitled Peach Girl and Miseinen Dakedo Kodomo Janai. The directive illocutionary act is the most frequently used speech act in everyday life. In Japanese, the meanings of these speech acts are often misinterpreted so the meaning of the speech isn’t conveyed properly. Peach Girl and Miseinen Dakedo Kodomo Janai use a lot of directive illocutionary speech acts, so a deeper study is needed regarding the meaning of directive speech act. The theory used in this research is speech act theory by Searle (1979). This study used descriptive qualitative method. The results found that there are 10 meanings of directive illocutionary speech acts, namely 1) command, 2) order, 3) beg, 4) request, 5) invitation, 6) deny, 7) advise, 8) prohibition, 9) warn, and 10) ask.
本研究使用的理论是Searle(1979)的言语行为理论。
