Abstract

The article describes the development of a simulation model of hybrid renewable energy systems based on solar panels and wind turbines, equipped with battery storage and intended for powering any kind of DC loads. The authors consider the structure of electric power systems, including the energy conversion and transmission, balancing the energy flows according to the solar and wind energy potentials and consumer needs. The paper describes simulation models of solar and wind energy sources, based on the application of the periodical functions that allow simulation of daily and yearly changes of available energy. The authors introduce the simulation models of the photovoltaic cell and battery storage based on empirical dependences, approximated by the mathematical functions. The simulation model of the hybrid renewable energy system was verified with different input data; the results of testing the model proved its validity and correct behavior for considered conditions. The simulation model is implemented in the MATLAB/Simulink software and can be easily adopted for any different parameters.
