The Influence of Nursing Character, Flourish and Job Stress on Burnout among Clinical Nurses

Abstract

This study was done to identify variables predicting of burnout with nursing character, flourish and job stress in clinical nurses. The participants were 183 clinical nurses at a general hospital located in P city, Korea. Data were collected from August to October, 2022 by questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done by using SPSS WIN 26.0 program with independent t-test and analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. This study shows negative correlations between burnout and nursing character(r=-.41, p<.001), flourish(r=-.58, p<.001). In addition, it showed a positive correlation for job stress(r=.36, p<.001). The flourish(β=-.49), job stress(β=.38), nursing character(β=-.16) have a 49.8%(Adj R² .489) explanatory power for the nursing burnout in clinical nurses. Therefore, in order to reduce the burnout of clinical nurses, it is necessary to develop a support system and program within the nursing organization to reduce job stress generated in nursing situations, strengthen flourish and improve positive nursing character.
