Abstract

This paper delves into a Load Shed system whose logic is distributed amongst the protective intelligent electronic device (IED) relays rather than solely encased in a traditional controller. The distributed logic architecture relies on the IEC61850 communication standard for the rapid response requirements. The benefits and drawbacks of project implementations are discussed within the paper to allow users to make informed decisions when designing load shed systems.
