Abstract

The cells in the human body use intercellular signal transduction to organize themselves and regulate their work; multicellular life could not exist without it. In this paper, we discuss why information theory provides a useful toolbox to approach this problem. We also discuss how to calculate the capacity of intercellular signal transduction in some specific examples. Finally, we describe the challenges and future prospects of this avenue of research.
