Ingredients for high citation index

Abstract

A citation is a reference to a book, article, web page, or other published items. A citation index on the other hand is an index of citations between publications and can be used as a measure of the quality of a paper. In general, a recently published paper tends to be cited less than a paper that was published 5–10 years ago. Similarly, a journal paper or a book chapter is cited more than a conference paper. In this paper, we investigate if there are any other ingredients that contribute to a paper being cited more. The scope of this research is limited to the journals from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Xplore database only. We have used two statistical tests (correlation and significance) to identify the ingredients which affect the citation count.
