Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis on the rotor UMP characteristics under dynamic air-gap eccentricity fault (DAGE) in synchronous generators. Different from other studies, this paper not only pays attention to the effect of the DAGE degree, but also considers the impact of the DAGE direction, on the rotor UMP at the meantime. In the work, the rotor unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) model employs two primary factors, i.e., the eccentric rate and the angle between the center line of the rotor and the eccentric direction, to reflect the eccentric degree and the eccentric direction, respectively. The simulation results prove the validity of the qualitatively theoretical model on a synchronous generator. The study shows that the rotor UMP increases under the DAGE conditions and the increment of the rotor UMP is closely related to the eccentric direction.
