Abstract
This paper describes the work in progress planned in the context of the project Advanced Architectures in Virtual Campuses (TIN2009-14317-C03-01). This project is headed by Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the participation of Telefónica I+D (R&D). The goal of this project is to define the architecture of virtual campuses independently from their underlying course management systems which are accessed by users using the most advanced devices. In addition, the project aims to use the model driven architecture approach for dealing with the evolving needs of students, lecturers and researchers. Past, present and future architectures of virtual campuses are analyzed in this paper.
