CULTURAL PROBLEM OF TRANSLATION

Abstract

This paper deals with the positioning Lacunae Theory in translation theory from the point of views of Russian ethnopsycholinguistics, as well as at applying the lacunae model in the process of translation. The application of Lacunae Theory in translation theory consists in its complementing of the contentious Theory of Equivalence. The equivalence relation in the framework of a context is specified by its approximal character. What is approximal here is merely the semantic dimension of a lacuna. Here, lacuna and equivalence are two sides of the same coin, with the lacuna serving as the starting point for the semantic assessment of an equivalence relation.
