Abstract
Energy conservation is of great significance design concern for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) since mobile nodes are battery powered and have limited capacity. Most of the legacy routing protocols for MANETs are primarily the shortest path routing protocols and do not concern with the energy awareness. Use of single-path routing protocols in MANETs will create hindrance while transmitting data in the network, because the data load is not shared across many paths like multipath routing protocol. Thus, the authors have proposed an Energy Efficient Node Disjoint Multipath Routing Protocol (E2NDjMRP) which is energy aware and uses shortest hop count with dynamic transmission range adjustment to determine the primary path and secondary paths. E2NDjMRP enhances the overall performance of the network in terms of power consumed, control overhead and energy efficiency. The simulation results are obtained using NS-2 and are encouraging.
