Index Coding: Insights and Applications

Abstract

The index coding problem is a canonical problem in network information theory with applications in satellite communication, content broadcasting, distributed caching, and interference management. It also has intrinsic connections to network coding, repair problems in distributed storage and guessing games on graphs. The aim of this talk is to provide an overview of index coding in its simplest form, discuss security and privacy aspects of index coding, share insights about its connections to other engineering problems, and motivate future research into this fascinating and rich open problem.
