Abstract
Uttarakhand state in India has two regions the Kumaun and Garhwal. The Kumaun
region , full of natural beauty and wealth , has a unique identity. Here the ethics,
living habits, food habits, dress, customs, religious beliefs. Songs dances etc., all have
its own colour. The existence of Kumaun dates back to vaidic period. In Skand Puran,
The Manas khand is stated which is basically the Kumaun region. There are so many
temples and holy pilgrimage in this region. Here the socio cultural based festivals are
celebrated and special dishes prepared in them. This culture is still preserved and
maintained. In this communication an attempt has been made to describe all these in
brief.
