Abstract

The emergence of vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) through inter-vehicle communications (IVC) has promised countless applications that could greatly improve the safety of drivers, ease traffic control and enhance the overall driving experience in the near future. Successful implementations of VANET would require standardized network protocols, secure communication platforms, reasonable coverage of wireless network among vehicles as well as cooperation from drivers themselves. In the networking domain, routing protocols that can cope the unique characteristics of a VANET environment is a subject of interest for many. This paper reviews routing protocols that have been adapted for VANET, particularly using the position-based routing method.
