This paper explains a new optimization technique Efficient Hybrid Simulated Annealing Algorithm (EHSA) for both convex and non convex ELD problem. The mutation operator of Differential evolution is used in particle swarm optimization to improve its performance and it is hybridized with simulated annealing to get EHSA technique. The proposed methodology is implemented for economic dispatch problem by considering the constraints such as generator constraints, transmission loss, ramp rate limits and prohibited operating zones. This method is experimented on a 6 units test system to get an optimized result.
