Abstract
The work presented in this paper achieves the speed control of separately exited DC motor by varying the armature voltage using chopper circuit. Speed can be adjusted from below and up to the rated speed. The-firing circuit of chopper receives signal from controller and variable voltage is given to the armature of DC motor according to the desired speed. The hardware for the above can be implemented using timer-based method. But here in this proposed work it has been implemented using microcontroller-based method where the motor can be controlled remotely. The proposed circuit outperforms some similar kind of previously reported designs from the viewpoint of operating frequency range as well as with respect to controlling and monitoring the motor. Moreover, the total cost of the proposed circuit is comparatively cheaper than the traditional DC Motor Drivers available in market. Finally, the experimental results show satisfactory behaviour of the desired circuits.
