Abstract
Cutting edge technologies like e-learning is a great innovation in recent years that has created a path for education for everyone. In developing countries due to inadequate funds and resources, education facilities are centralized at urban areas. Therefore, there is a significant digital gap between urban and rural education systems. The emergence of internet usage and computer based tools is allowing to reduce the digital gap between the education systems. Like other developing countries, Bangladesh is also in need of similar e-learning applications as 75% of the total population lives in the rural and remote areas. Considering the number of mobile phone users of Bangladesh, we have chosen an XML-based platform independent Integrated E-Learning System (IELS). This e-learning system will provide nationwide uniform e-learning facilities such as: identical course materials for all schools, multimedia tools, integrated database and decision support systems for learning and research, and accessibility from any mobile devices or personal computers.
