Abstract

This paper reports on an investigation into actuarial education in Australia. The approach taken is to review the education frameworks of three other professions, namely the accounting, engineering and medical professions and compare with the actuarial profession. Competency frameworks and methods for assurance of learning in all four professions are reviewed. The approach of the actuarial profession differs markedly from that taken by the other professions examined here. Implications of this review for possible developments to enhance actuarial education are provided.
