Abstract
Describes and analyzes a new architecture for metropolitan area networks (MANs). The architecture is based on a slotted unidirectional dual bus structure and is called dual bus R-net. A master station for each bus generates transmission frames that consist of a reservation slot and various information slots. The information slots are reserved by stations using the reservation slot before they can be used for transmission of information. Evaluation of dual bus R-net, using simulation, indicates that its performance is better than that of other similar MANs, in terms of channel utilization, bounded delay, and fair access etc.
