Abstract
The paper discusses new prospects for industrial application of transformers with high-temperature superconducting windings as cryogenic electrical equipment for power supply systems, power electronics and rectifying technology, in dependence of their electrical and environmental advantages. Our analysis shows that when using a cryogenic dielectric medium (liquid nitrogen), the electrical parameters used in the equivalent circuit of transformers are significantly improved compared to conventional, non-cryogenic media like oil, thereby reducing the loss of active power in the electrical network. The studies confirm the high level of pragmatics and the novelty of the obtained results. Experimental investigation has been carried out to obtain the current-voltage characteristics of an experimental model of a high-temperature superconducting transformer with a short-circuit current limiting feature. It is shown that at the time of short-circuit current limitation, an overvoltage occurs, which must also be limited. The results of our studies confirm the benefits of high-temperature superconducting transformers and pave the way for their usage in different electrical systems.
