Abstract
A method to determine the optimal installation locations for photovoltaic generators is proposed, in order to reduce the daily energy losses in an electricity distribution system. The methodology consists of using the tabu search method, programmed in Matlab®, together with OpenDSS to solve a combinatorial optimization problem. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated from the application in the IEEE 123-bus test system, which is unbalanced, with different voltage levels and variable loads associated with the load curve of a real feeder. Some adaptations were included in order to better observe and discuss the results obtained. The installation of the generators, determined by the Tabu Search, resulted in the improvement of the voltage profile of the system, as well as, in the reduction of energy losses. Finally. a financial viability study was carried out.
