Abstract
Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols have the capability to perform ad hoc routing. However, a common issue in MAC protocol is the data retransmission strategy relies only on the reply of acknowledgement (ACK) message from sender. Frequent exchange of ACK packet results in high control overhead. Besides, most data retransmission schemes only involve the interactions between source and sink nodes. This could affect the overall network performance. In this paper, we propose an asynchronous MAC protocol which utilize contention-based queuing technique and error control preamble to achieve one hop data retransmission without relying on the exchange of ACK packet. The proposed protocol is analyzed in terms of end-to-end (ETE) delay, energy consumption per data packet, and packet delivery ratio (PDR). Finally, a comparative study between the proposed protocol and the existing protocols will be carried out in future.
