Systems engineering and product testing involve diagnostics software which in many cases can best be implemented and maintained using expert systems. Programmable controllers are being developed with fuzzy logic and other methods to reason in the face of uncertainty. In order to expose students to these concepts, artificial intelligence, in the form of expert systems, is being introduced in a lower-division required course as well as an upper-division elective.
