Developing video-based course material for slow dialup connections

Abstract

Production of multimedia-based teaching modules for developing countries and transition economies poses a serious challenge for course developers. Severe restrictions have to be observed for video and audio streaming because of slow and unreliable data transmission. This paper discusses how digital audio and video material can be produced and delivered over low-speed Internet connections. Different approaches are presented and evaluated. Techniques to improve the efficiency of multimedia delivery through dialup connections are described.
