Abstract
The measurement campaign held in Prague, over a span of 5 months, have recorded the optical attenuation caused by fog particles along the corresponding specific value of particle surface area (PSA). This paper aims to empirically correlate optical attenuation with PSA at operating wavelength of 830 nm and 1550 nm. Simple linear regression model using the best fit method of least squares is used to minimize the error for extraction of optical attenuation from PSA. Empirical relations have been derived to predict optical attenuation caused by fog particles through the measured data of PSA. Linear relationship between optical attenuation and PSA has been established through the analysis of the measured data and the derived equations.
