Neutrinos and generations in Tran-sverse dimensions

Abstract

Abstract Jean Iran Thanh Van has led us through many paths, both in physics and around the world. His obvious gift of ubiquity both in physics and in the organization of meetings led a number of us to suspect he might make a secret use of extra dimensions. In this exotic world, we explore how neutrinos might disappear and re-appear, and how the triplication of generations could occur. We study four-dimensional flavor neutrinos coupled to a single “bulk” state, i.e. a Kaluza-Klein tower induced by a fifth dimension. We put special emphasis on understanding the spatial development of the neutrino disappearance, the possibility of resurgence and the effective flavor transitions induced in this mechanism. The first part of this talk concentrates on neutrinos, and makes ample reference to the presentation of Y. Suzuki. In the second part, we will deal with the somewhat unrelated possibility of obtaining three generations of particles in four dimensions from only one, vector like family in six.
