Abstract
This paper proposes a walking stick-based human interface for senior people towards ubiquitous society. This study focuses on the gesture interaction, which could be performed by the senior people as a means of input signal using the stick-based interface system without any prior knowledge or practice. Using the prototype system of the stick-based human interface developed in this study, gesture recognition experiments were conducted to see if the gesture could be understood in the proposed method in this study. The test results show that the gesture could be recognized in a high performance in certain conditions, which could be carried out under general restrictions of use. This paper reviews the results of the experiments and discusses the feasibility of the interface.
