Abstract
Child-to-parent violence (CPT) is a type of domestic violence that has become highly visible in recent years. One of the most replicated findings of research on the topic is that children who assault their parents have suffered direct violence within the family or have witnessed such violence more often than those who have not. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between exposure to violence in a group of adolescents who were being prosecuted for VFP or other offences, and in a group of adults who were serving sentences for various types of offences, but who acknowledged to have exerted or not CPV in earlier stages of their lives. The first group comprised 90 adolescents, aged 14-22, while the second group included 70 men, aged 21-59. Participants answered the Escala de Violencia Observada of Orue and Calvete (2010) and an ad hoc self-reported CPV behavior inventory. The data replicate previous studies on the relationship between exposure to violence and violence by adolescents towards their parents, but go one step further by establishing differences between the two cohorts of • Correspondencia/Correspondence: ammartin@ull.edu.es PSICOLOGÍA JURÍDICA Y FORENSE: INVESTIGACIÓN PARA LA PRÁCTICA PROFESIONAL 278 judicialzed people. The results are discussed in relation to the need to go in deep into the differential profiles of underage who exert CPV in order to fit both, the content of the intervention, and the strategies for its implementation.
