Abstract
A UWB transceiver that employs pulsed, multiband signaling with frequency-hopping is demonstrated in a 65nm CMOS process. The transceiver satisfies ECC requirements and operates in the frequency range 6-8.5 GHz. The proposed signaling scheme provides flexibility to satisfy regulations across multiple regions with low implementation complexity. The receiver employs 4-element beamforming at IF to enhance sensitivity. The beamforming architecture does not require a wideband delay circuit at the RX. The prototype demonstrates 1 Gbps data rate over 2 meters, while consuming 221 mW in the TX and 211 mW in the receiver.
