Abstract

Persian source studies, especially the study of Persian historical documents, have long established traditions in Armenia. It is strongly connected with the importance of these documents in protection of the rights of the Armenian Church and its subjects under the rule of the foreign powers, using Persian as official language The start of the studies of Persian documents in Armenia may be considered the second half of 18th century and was connected with the activities of Catholicos Simeon Yerevanc‘i. The author examines the valuable contribution of some specialists in this field and focuses on the achievements of H. Papazian. The article considers the methods of work and main principles of publiccation of Persian documents in Soviet Union, which were the basis also for Papazian’s work. The author draws also some aspects for future developments in this field.
