Abstract
Through interview and questionnaire investigation of employees in three major telecom operators, this paper tested the mediating effects of perceived organizational support between challenge stressor-hindrance stressor and work performance. Results showed that challenge stressor not only had a direct positive effect on work performance, but also took an indirect effect through perceived organizational support, whereas improving perceived organizational support could enhance the positive effect between challenge stressor-hindrance stressor and work performance were implied. Hindrance stressor had a direct negative effect on work performance, while the mediating role of perceived organizational support is not significant, which demonstrated that different types of work stressor had different effects on work performance. Implications for stress management and the development of interventions in telecom operators were discussed.
