Abstract

Gender discussions have surrounded debates and scientific research in the soccer field; thus, this research expands the research and brings a differentiated view, presenting concrete data relating efficiency with wage inequality. The main objective of this research was to analyze the efficiency among the best women and men’s professional players in the world, comparing their remunerations received. For this, the best professional players in the world in 2018 were selected for the 2017/2018 season. In this direction, through Descriptive Statistics and Data Envelopment Analysis, using variables such as salary, goals, minutes played, yellow and red cards, and assists, it was possible to relate the performance of the players on the field with their remuneration. Despite being equivalent in terms of efficiency in the field, women have lower salaries than men; among several external factors, such as personal marketing, club investments, player visibility, the culture that privileges man, imposed on Brazilian society, has a great influence for this wage gap to exist and to be quite substantial. This research concluded that the lack of investment and the low visibility of women's football, however much it has been growing in recent years, makes these athletes perform their work without being properly paid.It must contain Introduction.
