Abstract
In this paper we present the results of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate variability (HRV) estimation based on simultaneous electrocardiographic (ECG) and photoplethysmographic (PPG) signals. The blood pressure is estimated from mean value of about 30 durations between P peaks of PPG signals and corresponding R peaks of ECG signal, known as pulse arrival time (PAT), obtained from about 30 seconds synchronous EGG and PPG recording. We found a very good correlation between the PAT average value and systolic blood pressure (SBP), but also promising results between the PAT average value and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). The differences between the values of BP, estimate by this method considering the PAT1 average values and the reference values of BP, determined with an electronic device destined for this scope, are smaller than 5 mmHg, which is a permitted limit. Finally based on ECG and on PPG recording for a working week, we determine BP and also we made a study of the HRV parameters.
