THE POTENTIAL OF AGRICULTURAL WAQF FOR ENSURING FOOD SUSTAINABILITY IN MALAYSIA

Abstract

The issue of food supply within a country involves the need to ensure the availability and access to an adequate amount of food for the nation. Empowering agricultural waqf (endowment) is seen as an alternative that can be considered for agricultural and farming projects in Malaysia, given that many waqf lands are underdeveloped. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify the methods of developing waqf land for agricultural purposes. Secondly, to analyse the potential of developing agricultural waqf for the sustainability of food security in Malaysia. The data collection method in this study is based on library research through the examination of articles and previous research. The findings of the study indicate that the development of agricultural waqf can enhance food supply within the country and indirectly provide employment opportunities for those in need.
