Two factors contribute to the increasing incidence of radiation-associated cardiovascular disease: advances in malignancy detection and the improved survival of cancer patients, by which many symptoms of radiation-associated cardiovascular disease, specifically radiation-associated arrhythmias, present years and/or decades following initial radiotherapy.
