Specific features of T. brucei nucleotide metabolism include the lack of de novo purine biosynthesis, the presence of very efficient purine transporters, the lack of salvage pathways for CTP synthesis, unique enzyme localizations, and a recently discovered novel pathway for dTTP synthesis.
