Observation on efficacy of pranoprofen eye drops in the treatment of Meibomian gland dysfunction
Objective
To observe the efficacy of pranoprofen eye drops in the treatment of Meibomian gland dysfunction.
Methods
Clinical case-control study.Total of 62 eyes of 42 cases with Meibomian gland dysfunction in Huaxian People’s Hospital from May 2017 to Jun.2017 were randomly divided into two groups. There were 31 eyes of 21 cases in artificial tears group and 31 eyes of 21 cases in the pranoprofen eye drops group. The two groups were treated with artificial tears(4 times a day) or pranoprofen eye drops (3 times a day) for 1 month, respectively. The efficacy was observed at 1 month after treatment.
Results
The tear break-up time in the artificial tear group was ameliorated compared with that before treatment(t=2.211, P=0.033). The ocular symptoms, break-up time and corneal fluorescein staining in the pranoprofen group were significantly ameliorated compared with those before treatment(t=2.102, 2.401, 2.385, P=0.046, 0.018, 0.022). The difference of corneal fluorescein staining was not statistically significant between the two groups.
Conclusion
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory eye drops therapy is effective for patients with Meibomian gland dysfunction.
