According to the results of the experiments, the radiation-induced stimulation cannot possibly have its origin in the increase in concentration of a single compound or its activation. There is a far more basic alteration of the organism which continues through many subsequent generations. Such a continuity is necessarily due to another cause. There is a certain parallelism to a dauermodification (persistent modification), both with regard to the steady-state condition and the induction process. The stimulation effects induced by X-irradiation also can be obtained by even a short-time modification of light and temperature conditions. Presumably the same principle of induction exists in both cases.
