The Caribbean tourism sector: recent performance and trends
In the past, Caribbean governments have exercised too little control on tourism: they must take some blame for current problems such as high-priced land and social tension. The author describes the recent, and fluctuating, growth of the sector in the more developed Caribbean tourist islands — Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago. He concludes that government action is essential to integrate tourism with other aspects of economic development, thereby ensuring that everyone shares in the benefits of increased employment, foreign exchange, and national income.
