These studies indicate that if year 2000 cost and efficiency goals for thin film solar cells are achieved, PV hydrogen produced in the Southwestern U.S. could become roughly cost competitive with other synthetic fuels for applications such as automotive transport and residential heating, if efficient energy use is stressed.
