The main branchial muscles observed are the constrictors branchiales, levatores arcuum branchialium epiarcualia obliqui, epiarcualia recti, subarcualia obliqui, subarcualia recti and subarcualia transversi. In the general plan the branchial muscles of N. hexagonolepis show similarity with those of other cyprinid fishes.
