Adsorption of tartrazine dye using Al2O3-pillared clay
Research on Al2O3−pillared clay and its application in the adsorption of Tartrazine has been done. Clay preparation was carried out through a natural clay suspension with Al2O3 solution, stirred for 5 hours, and calcined at 400 °C for 2 hours. After that, characterization was carried out using X-Ray Flourosity, X-Ray Diffractometer, Brunauer Emmet Teller (BET), and Analysis of the results of Tartrazine adsorbs using UV-Vis. The results of characterization of Al2O3−pillared clay adsorbent showed that basal spacing d001 at 29=8.650 is montmorillonite (d=10.21 A), surface area (17.843 m2/g), total pore volume (0.05399 cm3/g), and mean radius pore (605.24 nm). Adsorption was carried out in batches with variations in a contact time of 20, 40, 60, and 80 minutes at a speed of 300 rpm. The highest adsorption capacity and adsorption efficiency at 40 minutes contact time, i.e., 0.6122 mg/g and 97.76%.
