AbstractExperimental data on a range of pure C-Fe and C-Cr-Fe alloys have been utilised to determine the locations of solidification range isotherms and liquidus sub-field boundaries on the Ferich corner of the metastable C-Cr-Fe liquidus surface. The liquidus surface gives information on the primary phase formed during solidification, and the sub-fields provide additional information, mapping the entire solidification sequence as a function of alloy composition. The solidification sequences followed by typical alloys from each of the ten sub-fields identified have been described with reference to their respective microstructures.
