Most of insulation failures indicate Partial Discharge (PD) activity prior to the fault. Several cases show PD is the indication of insulation aging and also the cause of insulation deterioration. Further effect of PD is accelerating the insulation breakdown to occur. Many researches conclude that monitoring is important to be performed. Monitoring PD can avoid the high voltage equipment experience an early aging. Detecting PD is necessary to know the amount of PD and understand the condition of the equipment. The measurements are made using electrical methods for air insulation.
