Inadequate serum Vitamin D levels are associated with multiple conditions such as secondary hyperparathyroidism and increased fracture risk. Multiple studies carried out also showed a correlation between Vitamin D deficiency and occurrence of diabetes and hypertension (HTN) in these deficient individuals. This study aimed to determine the serum levels of Vitamin D among patients frequenting a tertiary care hospital in Wayanad and the associations with sunlight exposure, gender, dietary factors, and diabetes and HTN. Settings and Design: Cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods: Hundred patients were randomly selected from the outpatient department over 6 months and asked to fill up a questionnaire. Vitamin D analysis was done by Elecsys Vitamin D total assay. Statistical analysis used was IBM SPSS statistics for Windows, version 20.0: Association between continuous data was determined using t-test/Mann–Whitney test depending on normality of data and association between categorical variables was determined using Pearson's Chi-square test. Results: Fifty-seven percentage of patients had Vitamin D deficiency. Significantly lower values of Vitamin D were seen among women. Conclusions: The median Vitamin D levels in men were 22.785 ng/ml and 17.81 ng/ml in women. 背景:全球近50%的人口受到维生素D缺乏的影响。血清维生素D水平不足与继发性甲状旁腺功能亢进和骨折风险增加等多种疾病有关。多项研究还表明,维生素D缺乏与这些缺乏维生素D的人患糖尿病和高血压(HTN)之间存在相关性。本研究旨在确定在Wayanad三级医院就诊的患者血清中维生素D的水平及其与阳光照射、性别、饮食因素、糖尿病和HTN的关系。设置与设计:横断面研究。材料与方法:在门诊随机抽取100例6个月以上的患者填写问卷。维生素D分析采用Elecsys维生素D总含量测定法。统计分析采用IBM SPSS for Windows, version 20.0统计数据:根据数据的正态性,使用t检验/ Mann-Whitney检验确定连续数据之间的相关性,使用Pearson卡方检验确定分类变量之间的相关性。结果:57%的患者缺乏维生素D。女性的维生素D含量明显较低。结论:男性维生素D水平中位数为22.785 ng/ml,女性为17.81 ng/ml。每日日照时间>1小时、糖尿病和HTN患病率、每日乳制品消费量和维生素D缺乏症之间没有关联。
