Survey of the setting down of a high modulus thread on a flexible core
In this article, the stresses inside thick parts during filament winding are analysed in order to avoid the occurrence of wavy layers. Each external new layer of stretched yarn compresses the layer beneath, which compresses the layer beneath that, and so on. This creates a light radial displacement of each layer which relaxes and changes the internal equilibrium of the part. This process is modelled numerically to give the final equilibrium, the thickness of each layer and the pressure on the winding core.
